Best Social Bookmarking Service?

21 November, 2008 (15:44) | Hot News, Tips, Useful Websites | By: User ImageSocialMind

Automation is one of the keys to making your online career easier.

I like to use a bookmarking service named “Onlywire” for submitting my articles and posts to the services I use.

Onlywire has been out for awhile now, but with the update they’ve introduced a few new things to make bookmarking and sharing your posts / articles so much easier.  Here’s a short run down of what they’ve got going on over there right now:

  1. Submit a site to 20 of the most popular social bookmarking sites.
  2. Add bookmarking /sharing capabilities to your blog or website with the following options:
    • WordPress Plugin (as seen on this site)
    • Simple Dynamic Expanding Button
    • Advanced Expanding Button
    • Plain HTML With Hyperlink - for services that don’t accept scripts
  3. Add-ons for Firefox and Internet Explorer that allow you to submit a site to all your bookmarking services at once.  For other browsers or those that don’t wish to install an add-on, there are also bookmarlet links.
  4. For developers, their API program may be what you are looking for, here’s the quote about the API program

The OnlyWire API allows you to submit a bookmark to all of the social bookmarking sites available below automatically. OnlyWire also allows you to add other bookmarking sites you are already using which are not listed below. If you are a programmer or if you have a content management system already in place, you can simply transmit a formatted HTTP query to the OnlyWire server and we’ll submit your bookmarks to the target sites specified in the query. HTTP authentication with your username/password is required when submitting requests.

Automating your bookmarking and adding the bookmarking service to your website is something every successful social marketer is doing. Onlywire is still a free service if you choose ad supported. Otherwise there is a paid option - I am using the free option with no problems, but may upgrade in the future.

Yes, Onlywire is indeed one of the best apps to automate the process of social bookmarking, which really can be time consuming if done manually.

I’ve been using OnlyWire for a while and it used to be somewhat tedious, but I love their new plugin which adds a simple button at the end of my posts…and the person never leaves your site to do the bookmarkin :!:

It looks as though all-in-one services, such as Onlywire appears to be, are the ones that will become the major ones, since they reduce the amount of time lost spreading one’s message or product around various sites. Coding an application that submits to the various sites in the way that they are to be appropriately submitted saves one the hastle of doing each one one-by-one. It is hard to see an all-in-one service not become the dominant mode of dissemination in the near future.

Indeed Onlywire saves one a lot of time but I have one worry about this automated submission especially now that Google is very strict about duplicate contents. Note that we only create one description for our submissions to the different bookmarking sites in our desire to lessen time consumption. This can be interpreted by Google as a spam. And when a considerable frequency of duplication is detected, may result in deindexing.
Well, this is only my worry and opinion, and I hope someone can enlighten me on this.
I already have the wp plug in but I’m hesitant to use it.

@angel YES, definitely a concern of all webmasters. Copyscape is a nice service if you’re looking for something to check for DC penalties. Use the bookmarking services in moderation and make sure to switch up your link text - one thing I’m pretty diligent about is making sure that the title and description of my bookmarks is NOT the same as the page I’m bookmarking. Thanks for your comments, I think you’ve inspired me to do a more indepth article on this subject.

Thanks. I’ll be waiting for your more in depth article to warn fellow bloggers about this danger. Mind you, I’ve read several ebooks and free reports encouraging newbies to use onlywire to spam social bookamrking sites. Suggesting to create 10 accounts for each sites to get 1000 backlinks easily without mentioning the consequences. Then they will ask you to join them for a fee and take you by the hand for successful blogging.
