Are You Using Olympic Marketing?

With the Olympics on it got me thinking about how few people capitalize on this event in their marketing efforts.

The Olympics is an event that catches the attention of the whole world.  People will be glued to their TV sets watching their favorite events and using it for small talk.

Using the correct marketing strategy, practically any business can find a way of tapping into the Olympic event to gain exposure and new clients.

I found a great example of this over at Jason Boom’s Blog.  He’s holding the “Micro-Blogging Olympics” and currently is on day four of this idea I believe.  I hooked up with him on Plurk myself and am following him because of his topically chosen posts.  It’s a fantastic way to get started on the 3 top micro-blogging platforms(Twitter, Plurk, Pownce).

When you figure out how to tap into the Olympics as a sort of common ground to launch promotional ideas - you will start to see opportunites all around you in every event that is held.  An event can be as simple as an anniversary or as earthshattering as a war - involving yourself in your readers day to day life events can have profound results on their interest level.
